The President’s Shield, Lake Hill’s charity tournament, was held on Saturday, August 9th. Twelve teams competed for the honour of having their names added to this impressive trophy.
The weather cooperated, although it did get hot especially in the last game. In a close contest the team of Judy C., Steve B. and Gill H./Lesley B. won. Second place was Jag B, Mona J. and Sandra McC. Third place winners were Deryk B, Marie M and Bev S. Congratulations to them all!!
My thanks go out to the huge number of members who helped make this event the great success it was! Last year we raised $3,000.00 for Our Place. This year to date we have totaled $3,009.00 with 240.8 lbs. of groceries also donated.
You may be interested to know the (approximate) breakdown of where the funds were raised –
- Registration – $360;
- Donations – a whopping $2,170.00 either by cheque, cash or on-line;
- the sale of Shields before and during the games – $519.00.
- Oh yes, the sale of extra goodies generated well over $100 and was added to the Donations.
- Marlene cannot give us a definite amount for the online donations as she received some from anonymous donors.
- Both Kim and Marlene from the Shelbourne Community Kitchen came to have a quick look at the proceedings on Saturday and both expressed their sincere gratitude for our support.
Even with a brisk sale of Shields during the games we finished on time shortly after 3:00 p.m.
