The President’s Shield Tournament on Saturday, August 9th was simply an amazing day that ticked so many boxes:
- Fun – check!
- Weather – great!
- Camaraderie – excellent!
- Supporting a good cause – well done!
- Enjoyable competition – indeed!
The President’s Shield was a success in a lot of different ways.
First of all, congrats to the winning teams:
- 1st place: Margot G, Sharron M, Phil W
- 2nd place: Kate K, Betty Hall, Linda T, Jennifer G
- 3rd place: Jag B, Betty Hellwig, Suzanne H.

The competition was excellent and many players pulled out the various “shields” to mix things up from a regular tournament – to bowl again, add a fourth bowl, make an opponent use a bowling aid – or even replay an end. All of which added to the general air of fun and to spice things up.

We are especially pleased that all was in support of a good cause, the Shelbourne Community Kitchen (SCK). And this year we exceeded all expectations in terms of support, realizing terrific amounts from various sources:
- Baked goods – $100
- 50/50 and raffle – $210
- Sale of bowling “shields” – $900
- Cash donations – $850
- Cheque donations – $2,540
- Online donations – $300
Total monetary donations to date – $4,900.00!!!! Donations are still coming in so we’ll update you as soon as we have the final figure.
In addition, many of our members were most generous with donations of non-perishable food and other items requested by the SCK, and several of us have signed on to become monthly donors. If you have not already done so, I suggest you go to the SCK website to learn more about the support they provide to so many people – https://www.shelbournecommunitykitchen.ca.
I also want to extend my thanks to the many people who donated their time and efforts to make the President’s Shield a success – Noreen and the kitchen crew, Shaen, Chris and the greens crew, Deryk for setting up the teams and scoring system – and most especially to Shona for all her hard work in managing all aspects of the tournament, and to all others who pitched in to help with setting up, takedown and the many other tournament tasks, my apologies if your name is not mentioned.
