Fundamental to this principle is the basic assumption that each person has value and is worthy of respect. Responsible Action The principle of responsible action carries the basic ethical expectation that the activities of members will benefit society in general and participants in particular and will do no harm. Fundamental to the implementation of this principle is the notion that each member is responsible for the consequences of their actions or inactions. Integrity Integrity means that members are expected to be honest, sincere, and honourable in their relationships with others. Acting on these values is most possible when members possess a high degree of self-awareness and the ability to reflect critically on how their perspectives influence their interactions with others. Honouring Sport The principle of honouring sport in general and lawn bowling in particular challenges members to recognize, act on, and promote the value of lawn bowling for individuals and teams and for society in general. Code of Conduct for Members Treat everyone equally and sensitively regardless of age, disability, gender, race, ethnic origin, cultural background, sexual orientation, religious beliefs or political affiliation during formal, informal and social interactions. Demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times when present at the Lake Hill Lawn Bowling Club. Refrain from disruptive, aggressive or intimidating behaviour including shouting, swearing, or making rude, racist or demeaning comments. Abide by all bylaws, policies and procedures of the Club. Create a friendly and harassment free environment. Refrain from any behaviour which may discredit the club or the sport as a whole. Strive for excellence while supporting the concept of fair play. Do not knowingly circulate malicious or derogatory statements about or to any other members of the Club. Use electronic communication (e-mail) and social media (Facebook, Instagram) respectfully, taking care to share information and opinions appropriately. Abide by the Conditions of Play during all tournaments held at the Club. When a player is on the mat preparing to bowl, refrain from moving around the head and stand still if you are within or near the player’s line of vision. This includes non-players. Refrain from talking or making a noise behind the mat or near the player when the player is preparing to deliver the bowl. Remain behind the mat or behind the head when it is not your turn to play. Keep to your own rink at all times and while changing ends. Greet your own team members and opponents at the start of the game. Shaking hands (or a similar gesture) before a match and at its conclusion demonstrates good sportsmanship. Dress appropriately for all games and adhere to specific dress guidelines if indicated. Refrain from excessive celebration of your own fortune or your opponent’s misfortune. Do not criticize your opponents or your team mates. Be gracious whether you win or lose.
