The weekend of August 29/30 saw the BSI Novice Women’s Singles tournament at Central Saanich Lawn Bowling Club. The twelve women were divided into two pools of 6 players each. The competition was comprised of a preliminary round robin of 5 games to determine a winner in each of the two pools. Representing Lake Hill was Louise Herlinveaux, the winner of our in-house tournament. On Saturday, Louise won all three of her preliminary games followed by two more wins on Sunday morning. This placed Louise in the final against Paula of Burnside LBC. Paula jumped to an early lead.
However, showing tremendous determination, concentration and poise, Louise battled back from a 10 – 2 deficit to tie it up at 13 – 13. The substantial audience was, by now, quite hushed. No doubt with adrenaline pumping, Louise’s last shots were a little too long and Paula, with commendable skill and composure, took the game. Regardless of the outcome, Louise played like a champ and everyone at Lake Hill can be proud of her sterling effort. Judging by the outpouring of congratulations after the trophy and prize presentations, this game will be remembered by many for a long time to come.
Louise, we all look forward to seeing you compete in many more club and BSI tournaments.
With thanks to Central Saanich for hosting a well organized and welcoming event and best wishes to all,
Gina and Sue
