On the weekend of July 26th and 27th, Lake Hill was host to the Anne Webster Ladies Triples BSI (Bowls South Island) tournament.

Examination of the trophy revealed – and this came as a surprise to everybody – that this was the 50th Anniversary Edition of the tournament, first held in 1975.

In the light of previous tournaments this summer, the organizing committee arranged for this tournament to be held on two days of perfect weather: the sun shone, there were a few fluffy white clouds, and temperatures were well within the manageable range.

Fourteen teams from across the South Island competed, playing two sixteen-end games each day. There was some superb bowling, some dramatic, very close games and there were also one or two games which the losing team is probably doing their very best to forget. But in the end, of course, there could be only one winning team and, in the end, there was only one team who remained undefeated in all their games.
The final results:
1st: Annie Mathie, Cherlynn McAthur, Deb Mackie
2nd: Kim Engelstad, Dianne Murray, Helen Jeffery
3rd: Debra Whitman, Pei Mei Chia, Charlene Zhao
4th: Dorothy Verge, Jill Foster, Trudy Cutfield

This was Lake Hill’s first tournament to have a sponsor, in the form of Comfort Keepers, who provided door prizes and, given the club’s demographic, will be a good organization to have connections with. Our thanks to them and their Client Relations Manager, Shana Reid.
Once again the massed band of Lake Hill volunteers provided the ace in our hole:
